Hello Whatever your name is, Scott,or Albright!

I dont believe I have tried to inflict any doctrines on to anybody!
I`ve just stated, that in my opinion Christianity should be about love and hope and forgivness! We should not be preaching hellfire and damnation! Haven`t people like yourself learned any lessons from the past, and the fanatical behaviour of our Ancestors and the misery and pain they created in the name of God! What was your point again?

I think that we can look at others "price" and not imagine ourselves being able to bear the same. Pastor's kids often feel that their lives are deprived, that their fathers and sometimes mothers give so much time to others and so little time to the home. Whereas the pastor and his wife feel God's calling and equiping for the task, the children, sometimes not christians themselves, don't feel the spiritual drive or the spiritual blessings. I always remember a particular part of a book about a pastor in Cuba who was imprisoned for some time, but finally released and went to live in the USA. At some point, one of his fellow prisoners was also released, and he went to meet him at the airport. He said that as they embraced on the tarmac, he felt sorry for the christian leaders in Cuba who had comprimised to avoiding trouble. He said that the fellowship in Christs' sufferings between those two there on the tarmac was such a precious thing. It is a bit like parents with children with disabilities who say that their child has given them so much joy. I'm sure in each case, their burdens are terrific. So much more hardship because of their situation, and they wouldn't deny that, and they need help and support, but there is
something going on, a blessing, a reward of the heart.
If we try to weigh up who is paying a higher price than who, we would need a very special set of scales indeed. But as a member of a church, we can be inspired by the account of Moses. We could be the spiritual ones who can take some of the burdens, and we can help support the "arms" of our leader/s.
Remember, the widow who gave the mite. God sees what we do, and He will reward accordingly. Leaders are going to face a greater jugement for every word they speak, so we need to be gracious enough to pray for them and not make their jobs any harder.

hi Alan,
being in a church fellowship which is very focused on raising up men to preach and go into all the world, we can be very dismissive of those who aren't called to that ministry. It dosen't come from our leaders' example though, when my husband was talking to him about this topic ( we are aware that it is people working secular jobs who are financing us missionaries to be able to do what we do !) Pastor Mitchell said it takes as much devotion to stay in your church and be a faithful member of the congregation as it does to be a missionary .
hahaha... our secret is out ! being a missionary doesn't mean you are the creme de la creme !
well, the bible gives us Jesus who spent most of His adult life as a carpenter, only three years in His ministry, and Dorcas who was resurrected to make some more clothes, and those who were financing the gospel being spread. The little kids who weren't doing anything were commended as having the kind of heart it takes to get into the kingdom.
the trouble with us sometimes, is that we think we have it all sussed, just like the pharisees and sadducees did.
God help us !!

hello Alan, I've just found your site via facebook, via amma lynch and am glad to read your musings. I've always enjoyed talking with you and Elspeth and hearing your insight and perspective on things.
Hello matthew, I have been feeling convicted for a while that us married couples with children who have christian fellowship at home, on tap should be making a space at the table for people like yourself. I hope that you do find the fellowship that you desire. Maybe if you turn up with a packet of biscuits or something after the mealtime is finished, then you wouldn't be stressing out the home economist ! Or maybe you could learn to make a particular dessert and you would be like an angel descending to the home with sweet smelling offerings. And don't stay too late, so the kids bedtime isn't disturbed.
these are only ideas if you are feeling like an imposition. I'm trying to put myself in your shoes.
heres an easy desert to get you going...
take some tinned peaches, pour them in an ovenproof dish, sprinkle over some sponge cake mix in its powder form, you can buy very cheap packs in tesco, asda e.t.c and finally blob on some blobs of margarine, or butter if you are posh, then stick it in the oven until the margarine melts and turns golden.you want the cake mix to be about a 1/4 inch thick. serve with ice cream, cream, custard or evaporated milk.
If you don't have a baking dish you could assemble at the families' home, using their dish and oven, but be sure to offer to wash up the dish afterwards.
gosh, I can go on can't i ??
well, God bless, hope you are successful !
